Safety and wellbeing of our volunteers, employees, and delivery partners is African Adventures’ priority, and directs how we approach all our operations.
“As the Chief Executive Officer, this statement sets out my unwavering commitment to health and safety across African Adventures to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment of our work. It also affirms our duty to meet our legal and moral obligations. Health and safety is a shared endeavour, and a collective responsibility, so I expect all our staff and partners to do the same.” Dan Mew
Best practice
Legislation
We operate across multiple territories in the UK and Africa, and whilst we will always comply with the law of each state, we aspire to meet the highest standards of safety, health and environment. We’ll therefore use UK legislation as our standard benchmark where other territories legislation is lower.
Environmental
Due consideration will also be given to the environment, ensuring we minimise the impact our work has at home and abroad. We will ensure, where possible, we lead in demonstrating responsible resource use, protection of the environment we operate in, and protecting the wildlife we encounter.

Through our approach, we can ensure we deliver our primary objectives to a high standard, encouraging all stakeholders to do the same along the way.
To achieve this, we commit to:

Encourage an open culture where our people feel able to report incidents, accidents and near misses, bring forwards observations and good ideas in a timely fashion.

Recognise that Health, Safety and Environmental culture and practices in the UK are more advanced and sometimes different to Africa, but never use this as an excuse not to strive for improvement.

Anyone, regardless of title or experience, feels they can question or stop unsafe practices, and safety is always the first consideration.

Ensure we have an effective Safety Management system in place including reporting, monitoring and compliance checks and reviews.

Monitor and mitigate our environmental impact whilst taking opportunities to educate others.

Take a risk-based approach to business operations and decisions.

Meeting and, where possible, exceeding all legal and other relevant requirements.

Providing appropriate health and safety information, instruction, supervision and training.

Ensure we are a learning organisation taking adequate action where we find we can do better.
